Pirovano Merlot

A beautifully light Merlot from northern Italy, courtesy of Cantine Pirovano, who harvest grapes from the Veneto region for this wine. Ruby red with violet reflexes, the bouquet brings forest berries and bramble, whilst the fruity palate shows blackberry and blackcurrant alongside soft tannins. The pleasantly fruity finish hints at liquorice and forest floor. Try with roasted chicken, stewed beef, and a variety of semi-hard and nutty cheeses. 

The Pirovano family have been winemaking for four generations. Their farm, Terre Bentivoglio, extends for 90 hectares in the vine laden hills of the Oltrepo Pavese. The excellent exposition of their vineyards and composition of soils enable the cultivation of many grapes.
