59N Tannat uses grapes from Kalos Wines’ La Consulta vineyard in San Carlos, Mendoza, which sits at an altitude of 1100m with alluvial and rocky soils. Old vines are up to 60 years old and grapes go through cold then controlled maceration for 15-20 days before fermentation. Brief time is spent in French and American oak for soft texture.
The result is a Tannat of violet colour with deep burgundy tones. The bouquet brings energetic aromas of ripe wild red and black fruits, intermingled with spice and chocolate. Pleasant mouth feel and persistent flavour on the palate, with a plentiful finish. Soft ripe tannins bring plush, juicy texture. Try with red meats, rich casseroles, or strong aged cheeses.
Argentina’s Kalós Wines 59 Novias range pays tribute to Calixto, the Losada familys grandfather, who boasted of having 59 girlfriends in his youth. The Losada family took up residence in Mendoza 20 years ago and decided to produce wines of the highest quality as a way to pay tribute to the wine of the region and thank local people for their hospitality. That is why the philosophy behind Kalós Wines is to produce high-quality wines in small quantities.
