Josten & Klein bring a premium Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) wine using hand harvested grapes from their Leutesdorf vineyards on the east bank of the Rhein river. Fermentation begins in stainless steel before malolactic is finished in barrel, with total ageing of 12 months in used French oak barriques. This gives the wine a lovely richness, while the acidity from growing this variety in a cool climate keeps everything fresh.
The initial palate shows lots of classic minerality with citrus and soft, white fruits, but with air, texture and weight develop on subsequent sips. These punchy flavours stand up to a wide variety of food. Try with light dishes, seafood, fish and shellfish, or go for more flavourful, rich fish and vegetable dishes.
Germany’s Josten & Klein was founded by winemakers Marc and Torsten who partnered up after working together in a co-operative. The partnership centred around the potential of their family vineyards in Mayschoss (Ahr Pinot Noir) and Leutesdorf (Mittelrhein Riesling), and they have worked together to bring these vineyards to premium quality to get the very best from their grapes.
