Maison Joseph Drouhin present this classic French wine from one of the oldest and most respected villages of Burgundy, Meursault in the Cote de Beaune. Chardonnay grapes are grown in low yield vineyards just a few km south of Beaune, in the celebrated terroir of Cote des Blancs (Slope of the Whites). Very slow pressing (last pressings are discarded), with no yeasts or enzymes used. The wine goes directly into barrels (25% new oak) after decantation for 12 months, with careful tasting evaluation throughout the ageing process.
This care and attention creates a refined wine of beautiful golden colour and a great aromatic profile; honey, linden flower, hazelnut butter, sometimes even chamomile or hawthorn. A silky roundness envelops the palate alongside flavours of yellow plum and gingerbread, with a beautifully long aftertaste. Can be stored for up to 15 years. Try with shellfish, flavourful fish, garlic and creamy mushroom sauces, soft or goats cheeses.
Maison Joseph Drouhin was founded in 1880 and is known for rigorous attention to detail, self-imposed discipline, willingness to learn, passion and daring. These qualities alongside the fine art of winemaking have been handed down through the generations, and now with the fourth generation at the helm, the winery continues to thrive.
