The Domaine Berthet-Rayne family have been farming in Cairanne since 1880. Their vineyard here was certified organic in 2011. The Grenache, Syrah and Carignan vines are an average of 60 years old. Fermentation with the délestage technique to soften tannins and regular pump overs. Juice undergoes 20 days maceration before pressing, and maturation in concrete tanks for one year before bottling.
Intense ruby red appearance with purple hues testifies to its youth. Expressive aromas of fresh raspberry and strawberry with a hint of cocoa precede a well balanced palate of intense red fruit flavours. Try with roast lamb and game, hearty roasted vegetables or stews.
Domaine Berthet-Rayne is now managed by the fourth generation with 25 hectares of vines in Rhone, including in Chateauneuf du Pape. Planted on a mixture of clay, limestone and chalk soils, the vineyards are covered with large pebbles which retain heat during the day and radiate it at night.
